This photo made the rounds over the week, showing a male pit bull grieving at his female companion’s side in Phoenix. The female was hit by a car sometime on Friday night and succumbed to her injuries on the side of the road. A local business was moved by the sight and put out food and water for the male while he nuzzled his friend sadly for over fourteen hours until they were finally collected.
Rodrigo Silva of Animal Care and Control said "He’s a little withdrawn and he appears to be very sad. I am not certain we will be placing him up for adoption." Silva added: "If he continues to show these signs of withdrawal we will place him in a recovery home that can help him with his grieving."
Since going viral, one Chicago viewer was brought to tears. “They deserve better,” says Karyn Aspen who has since been on a crusade about the two dogs left on the side of the road for 14.5 hours. "I was so outraged I even called the mayor’s office and had posted on Facebook in hopes that the mayor’s office would be bombarded with calls." Karyn continues her crusade from Chicago, fighting for faster response times and determined to ensure the dog gets a good home.
My Fox Phoenix reports Animal Control said it was the Sanitation Department that delayed in picking up the dogs
